The AKC Ranks the Popularity of the Bulldog
It's here. The American Kennel Club's (AKC) rankings of the most popular dog breeds in the United States. The AKC bases its rankings on the number of dogs that are registered in a given year and the 2005 results are in. And for bulldog lovers, they are shocking.
How bulldogs could be anything but the most popular breed is beyond me. But they aren't. They aren't even in the top ten in the nation. Bulldogs are 13th in popularity (behind the shih tzu, seriously). There are some cities that appear to be on the right track -- sort of. Here's how the fabulous bulldog ranks in several major cities.
- Bulldogs are the 5th most popular dog in Denver and LA.
- Bulldogs are the 6th most popular dog in Las Vegas, New York, and
Washington DC. - Bulldogs are the 7th most popular dog in Boston, Philidelphia,
San Diego, St. Louis, and Tampa - And making up the rear, bulldogs are 8th in Chicago and Miami,
9th in Baltimore, and 10th in New Orleans.
If you live in Atlanta, Charlotte, Columbus, Dallas, Detroit,
Houston, Phoenix, Raleigh, San Francisco, or Seattle we feel sorry for
you; bulldogs don't crack the top ten in any of these cities.
